WHAT IS RED BULL RAMPAGE ?

Red Bull Rampage is a free ride mountain bike event held near Zion National Park in Virgin, Utah, United States, in which a group of suicidal, attention seeking men have been trying to prove that bike flying scene from E.T was not Steven Spielberg's fantasy. This invite only competition has been held since 2001. It is the biggest test of skills and cojones in the world. Downhill, slopestyle and freeride MTB athletes take on the terrifying course that 99% of people wouldn't be able to walk let alone ride the bike. Red Bull rampage competetors also prove that most of us have no skills and suck at riding the mountain bike...

CHOOSING THE DEATH PATH

It all starts with a rider choosing the most possible option to get yourself killed on the way down. Steepest, gnarliest, rowdiest and rawest path possibly will surely win some respect amongst judges.

BUILDING THE LINE

Apart from a team of builders coming to prepare the major connecting features of the trails, competitors and their teams begin digging their own unique lines down the chosen death path. Somehow they manage to recruit supper hot chicks who don't mind working with the shovel in the middle of the desert...

JUDGING CRITERIA

1- LINE CHOICE

The gnarlier, the steeper, the more difficult path...In other words the path that will most likely kill a rider or send him to a hospital will score him more points...

2- AIR / AMPLITUDE / TRICKS

Jumping very high, adding tricks and sticking to the landing rather than coming up short won't only make a rider a hero in spectator's eyes, but also will increase chances for extra points...

2- FLUIDITY / STYLE / SPEED

A few other things that judges will be looking at are: The speed riders travel on their chosen line - Whether they flow or charge - Whether they are hesitant - If their style is loose and comfortable or they look robotic and stiff.

THE BIKES

Behind Red Bull Rampage kamikazes, there are bike companies and component manufacturers building high tech parts that aim to blend strength with light weight and durability with performance. Without this high tech, custom made, super cool looking steeds, riders wouldn't be able to perform big jumps, drops, or some of the air tricks.

FINAL WORD

It's not golf, shi* goes wrong in the rampage quite often. You can clearly see the riding level in this competition is so insane that each rider is actually putting his life on the line every time he does a run there. Despite their hardest efforts, thank God and their insane skills none of the competitiors has managed to die in the history of Red Bull Rampage. Whether you like Red Bull Rampage or not, you have to admit that these insane mountain bikers deserve a huge respect and better wages than golf players.
