MTB TREKS HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE

THE RIDING

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START ?
We usually start riding at the end of March all the way till the mid of October. This is when the weather is at its best. However if the weather lets us, we’ll also ride outside of this period.
WHAT ARE THE TRAILS LIKE AND ARE THEY DIFFICULT ?
The trails range from fairly challenging to extremely difficult and technical. You can find here simple off-roading, smooth single tracks, asphalt section being closed to general traffic and set right in the middle of the wilderness, and steep rocky trails that will test your skills and courage. All these trails are set to the mind-blowing views of valleys, woods, lakes and rivers.
ARE THE TRAILS FAR AWAY FROM WHERE WE WILL BE STAYING ?
Some trails will require us to do a hard peddling to get there (Downhill sections). Saying this we rarely use public roads and nearly 95% of riding is off the road.¬† Hey… that’s the whole idea about mountain biking. Right ? We’ll be riding across two different countries. We do use a support car to get to some mountain sections, but generally, we do a lot of pedalling:)
HOW FIT DO I HAVE TO BE ?
You don’t need to be super fit, part of our experience is about making you fitter and healthier. Saying this, the area is quite hilly and can be quite challenging for someone out of shape even on easy trails. Someone who wants to get full experience and beauty of the place will need determination and be in fairly good shape. To give you an idea, if you are losing your breath walking a few flights of stairs, you will have the difficult time riding easy trails, so you might need some preparation. If in doubt contact us for more info.
DO I NEED TO HIRE A BIKE ? BRING MY OWN ? HOW DOES IT WORK ?
We arrange bikes for you to hire but we recommend your own bike for a better fit and comfort. Depending on kind of bike you want to hire, cost of travelling with your own machine might be cheaper than hiring.
DO I NEED PROTECTION GEAR?
Although some hire shops provide some basic protection with bikes, we really recommend your own for a better fit and comfort. You might also consider adding a light armour, goggles or sunglasses and gloves. Let’s face it, you never know when you might fall off your bike, and that might happen no matter how easy the trail is. It will hurt much less if you are well padded.
WHAT OTHER KIT WILL I NEED ?
Depending on the time of the year you might need usual summer riding clothes, shoes or something warmer for late Autumn days. Even for the summer experience, we recommend the waterproof jacket and some jumper, temperature at high altitudes can sometimes get a little bit low. Don’t forget about your cycle backpack and water bottle. Apart from that, bring whatever you usually take with you on your holiday.
CAN I BRING OVER MY CHILDREN ?
Sure, but for most of our riding trips, they’ll need to be confident riders. Generally, an over 12-year-old confident rider can manage many of trails being classified as easy on the technicality scale. They will still need a reasonable fitness to complete their rides. If you have children who don’t ride yet, we can arrange bike trailers that can be used on flat XC mountain bike trails. Also, many of the hotels offer babysitting services.

BOOKING / PAYMENTS

CAN I BOOK A DATE THAT SUITS ME ?
Great thing about MTB Treks Holiday Experience is that you are not restricted to fixed dates, you and your party can choose any date to ride.
HOW DO I MAKE ENQUIRY ?
Just fill in the booking form and we’ll get back to you with an offer.
HOW DO I MAKE A PAYMENT ?
Depending on your holiday package you will need to make a bank transfer of an agreed downpayment with the remaining amount to be paid on the day of your arrival.
DO I NEED AN INSURANCE COVER ?
Yes you do. Make sure you’ll apply for European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), formerly E111 card. It is free and will cover you for any emergency hospital treatment you may need. You will also need a specific insurance for a mountain biking holiday to make sure you won’t only be covered for basic emergencies but also for helicopter rescue emergencies, recovery and rehabilitation. It’s really worth and not expensive at all. In the UK they start as low as 15 pounds.¬†Alternatively, you might choose a holiday insurance package offered by the airlines you fly with.

TRAVEL / ACCOMMODATION / WEATHER

WHICH AIRPORT SHOULD I FLY TO ?
The closest air port is in Wroclaw, 1 hour and 50 minutes away from UK. Ryan Air and Wizz Air fly there daily from all major airports in UK and Europe. You can also fly to Prague in Czech Republic which is slightly farther away.
HOW DO I GET TO KARPACZ FROM AIRPORT ?
We’ll pick you up and drop you off if this is your wish. Alternatively, you can hire a car at the airport. Karpacz is 1-1.5 h away from Wroclaw.
CAN I DRIVE TO KARPACZ FROM UK ?
Driving over will be longer (14 hours) and more tiring but can be cheaper than flying if you are car-sharing. Otherwise, we recommend you to fly. It’s approx 2 hours flight from most destinations in Europe and tickets can be really cheap. However here’s a quick link to your road planner if you decide to drive.
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?
The best solution is to check in your hotel room one day before the start date of your experience and check out one day after. We start early morning, so coming and riding on the same day might not be the best idea.
HOW EXPENSIVE ARE LUXURIES HOTELS ?
Accommodation standard will depend on how much money you want to spend on it. Full board hotels with room service, spas, saunas, swimming pools, can cost only 60-70 pounds a day/night, depending on the time of the year. You can also rent the whole house or chalet accommodating from 10 to 20 people for about £600-£1000 a week, which can be a great deal if you are coming in a larger group.
HOW ABOUT THE FOOD ?
Food is amazing, top restaurants offer a choice of Polish and International cuisine and always use the highest quality products. You’ll also find here bakery shops, food stores and local farmers selling the highest quality organic food.
WHAT'S THE NIGHT LIFE LIKE ?
You’ll always find someone to join you for a night of beer, cocktails and great fun. Party wise, well, nightlife is not the same as in Ibiza, but by no means, it can get crowdy in some places, especially during season time. Fridays and Saturdays are always reserved for nights of dancing and fun, no matter what time of the year it is.
WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE ?
Generally, the weather is great. Between April and mid-October temperature rarely goes down below 18 degrees C. In May, June, July and August you can expect temperatures well above 20 degrees C, sometimes reaching even 35 degrees at the foot of the mountains in the middle of the summertime. Higher parts of the mountains can be slightly colder making the temperature perfect for mountain biking. But don’t put your coat on just yet, the frequent phenomenon in Karkonosze Mountains called thermal inversion can often cause the warmer air to be higher than the colder which means the higher you are the higher temperature is. Sometimes in the season, we can get a few days of rain come in, but it is really impossible to predict. However, summer spells of rain are quite warm keeping you riding in your sleeveless. Winters are quite cold and snowy and usually reserved for skiing and snowboarding.
WHAT OTHER ATTRACTIONS CAN I EXPECT ?
Apart from mountain biking, there is plenty of other things to do over here. Medieval castles, palaces, aqua parks, rock climbing, summer sledging, flying in a glider, 4×4 off-road experiences, bungee jumping and much more.
